My computer at my office was an older AMD Duron 1.8GHZ with 1 GB of ram.
For basic office stuff, it was more then fine.
Anyhow, I decided to upgrade the hard drive to a faster 7200 rpm hard drive (yes it had a very slow HD in it)
When doing so, the PC Chips M848A motherboard would not post after upgrading. Reset CMOS Jumper, nothing No error beeps, just the processor fan would turn on
This is probably the 3rd PC Chips motherboard that has gone bad on me just by doing minor tweaks. I think I had another PC Chips arrive DOA as well. Unfortunately on Newegg.com, this is the only Socket A board you can buy, and since there is a warranty on it, it is safer then buying a used Socket A off ebay.
Overall, I have found the M848A series a very unstable, temperamental system. If you have a Socket A 462 board, avoid the M848A if possible.
However, I will be testing the M848A V5.0 when it comes in and hope it shows a difference, I think this one has failed on me in the past too.
I don`t know why I keep running into this board, maybe because it`s cheap and people think they are getting a deal.
