Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) Review and First Impression

I recently picked up Left 4 Dead 2 and tried the campaign and versus mode out so far. I will post future reviews about the other modes the game has to offer which are realism mode and survivor mode.
My initial impression of campaign mode is that it obviously has the same feel and general linear style of the 1st Left 4 Dead, one improvement is the weapon selection. You now have a larger assortment of guns such as AKs, Magnums, Assault Rifles with Scopes, and an assortment of melee weapons such as ninja swords, chainsaws, frying pants, and crow bars.
I can see a strategy utilizing maybe 2 of the members with melee weapons in the front crouching with 2 guys in the back with guns. The melee is very effective but the slight pause between swings may hurt you if you time your swings wrong.
In addition, there are new items such as adrenaline shots, defibrillators, and barf bombs. I think the defibrilators are going to bring a new element to versus which could cause some major comebacks for a team with a dead player.

Versus mode was a lot of fun. The new characters which are the charger, the spitter, and the jockey give an additional element of gameplay that allows for more creative teamwork combos when trying to take out the survivors.
For me, the charger was the funnest to use because its a straightforward character, he just runs in there and smashes someone. The jockey needed a bit getting use to, but I can see him being effective after a boom. The jockey basically rides a survivor and you can direct where they walk. The spitter is a great addition because it will help prevent players from crouching in a corner during large hordes. The spitter spits acid on the floor that does big damage.
Overall, I think the improvements are what we have been looking for in an L4D game. I will keep you posted as I explore more elements of the game.
