Feelthefunk.com I recently built a mid-range gaming rig and am reviewing specific components on it to give others an idea of how good they are or not. I have already written a review for the video card, an XFX Radeon HD 4850 1GB GDDR3.

The motherboard I am using is a BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX 128M (newegg link)

I have a AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache AM2+ CPU that I use with it and they seem to be a good combination. I have 4GB of rams and haven't made the move to 64 bit windows yet so my review is based on a Vista 32bit environment.

As stated in the last review, I have a 5.9 on all categories of the Vista performance test.

Overall the board runs real stable and fast. When putting it into my case, I noticed a few cool things that I have seen on newer motherboards.
  1. On-board Power and Reset button for non-case operation or troubleshooting. I love this feature.
  2. Independent AUX power for Graphic cards. They have a 4 pin male molex on the board that is reserved to deliver independent power to your graphics card. As the manual states, its to boost graphic card performance.
  3. 2 additional 3 pin AUX fan power, I wish this was 3 since most newer gaming cases come with more fans nowadays.
  4. It also has 6x SATA ports, which is very useful, especially if you are like me and do not use IDE HDDs or Burners anymore.
  5. Upon boot you get a nice hardware monitor that tells you various temperatures and what not.
  6. The board has DVI, HD, and VGA out on it running an ATI Radeon 3300 on-board. So this would be a nice set-top box for your TV.
The install also went flawlessly, everything POSTED on the first go and the RAM (G.SKILL DDR2 1066) played nice and had no compatibility issues. Also, the board is Crossfire Ready, which I have not tested.

I am not a big overclocker and from what I have heard, this isn't a big OC ready board, so if you are going that route, maybe this board is not for you. At the time of purchase it was $109 on Newegg with a $10 rebate dropping it to $99.

Overall, for a mid-range computer for gaming and or/ general purpose, I think this motherboard will provide a great value for anyone who needs a mid-range board for a good price.

"cant email you" is correct, its PCI-EX 2 Master slot that you put the video card into with the PCI-E paddle to engage 16x, however, the memory goes into modules as pairs, not 1 and 3, but 1 and 2, or 3 an 4 for dual channel

so i will say it here, if you wanna run dual channel you must run 1 stick in "a", the other in the other colrs "a"

also the video card is in the wrong slot for this board, unless you are runninmg two it must be in he bottom slot and you need ti use the card it came with to turn the slot up to 16 times...
