So a few weeks ago I bought a Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB hard drive, it is 7200 RPMs, has a huge 32MB cache, and is overall an excellent hard drive.
Comparing my older Seagate Barracuda that was 160GB, 7200 RPM with an 8MB cache, it definitely runs much better.
It is fairly quiet, I do hear a bit of rumbling sometimes, but nothing that concerns me. I have noticed quicker load times while playing Left 4 Dead. Installing vista took roughly 15 minutes compared to probably 20-25 minutes or so with the older Seagate.
I got an email today from Newegg.com saying that this hard drive has been nominated for the Newegg Customer Choice Award, so I guess others are liking it too.
Overall, the hard drive cost me $79.99 with free shipping (March 09) and works great. Of course Solid State drives would smoke this drive, but for the cost and performance, I highly suggest this drive.
Windows Vista gives it a 5.9 out of 6.0.
I opted not to post a picture since it looks like a regular 3.5 hard drive.

Damn thats interesting!! Keep it tasty!
uhm thats most all seagates not some lol.
Yea, some seagates seem to be problematic over time, it seems like they get louder and squeeky over time.
seagates suck though phil. western digital is the best ^_^ thats opinionated yes but they are. for mech drives anyways solid states OCZ is dominating that area right now.
If people want faster performance go buy western digital RE drives and a raid controller and run raid 0
350 mb read and write speeds will EASILY give you over a 6.0 for vista ratings. itd probably give you a 15 since the speeds typically are 50mb read 70mb write for mech 7200 rpm drives.
