Recently I fixed a friend of mine's computer that was infected with trojans and spyware. A trojan somehow installed System Guard 2009 and "My Web Search toolbar" which are both pretty annoying malware.
Anyways, we tried Ad-Aware and that failed. What worked very well was Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It cleared off all the malware very effectively. And unlike Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes' actually clears the malware off your machine without buying anything. They do offer a paid version which allows for realtime protection and scheduled scans. But the free version gets the job done.
On a side note, I used Symantec Ant-Virus Corporate Edition to get rid of the Trojans on his machine causing the problem. I actually ran MalwareBtyes first which got rid of the spyware itself, rebooted the PC and immediately scanned the system for Viruses, I then deleted any viruses it found. Re-scanned using Windows Defender and MalwareBytes to make sure the spyware was gone.
So in conclusion, I highly suggest Malwarebytes for spyware removal. Windows Defender is pretty good too, but after seeing how powerful MalwareBtyes was, I am leaning towards that more as my primary anti-mal ware app and have Windows defender as my secondary.
Ill have to try this but even then I do reccomend ad-aware SE myself been usin it since... 2003 or so. interesting though
